Case No.01 - The Vanishing Sapphire

 The Case: The Vanishing Sapphire

It was a cold January morning when Mr. Leonard Harrow, a renowned jeweler in the city of Fairhaven, stormed into the door of SHERLOCK. His prized possession—a flawless sapphire known as "The Azure Heart"—had vanished from his tightly secured showroom overnight. What baffled everyone was that the showroom had no signs of forced entry. The vault where the gem was kept was locked, and only three people had the access code: Mr. Harrow himself, his loyal manager, Ms. Evelyn Blake, and his security chief, Mr. Robert Finch.

"I need your help, Detective," Mr. Harrow pleaded. "This sapphire is not just priceless; it’s my legacy."

Sherlock immediately visited the scene. The showroom was equipped with state-of-the-art security cameras, but strangely, all the footage from 11 PM to 2 AM had been erased. The vault door showed no signs of tampering, and a fingerprint scan revealed only the prints of the three authorized individuals. The detective began interviewing the suspects.

1. Evelyn Blake, the manager, claimed she had left the showroom at 8 PM and spent the evening at home, with her neighbor confirming her alibi.

2. Robert Finch, the security chief, admitted to being on-site until 10 PM but swore he had no reason to steal the gem.

3. The janitor, Michael Trent, was not on the suspect list initially, but Detective Graves noted his unusually nervous demeanor.

While examining the vault, Graves spotted a faint smudge on the floor near the ventilation duct. Sherlock also found a small piece of blue thread stuck to the duct's grate. "Interesting," he muttered. Finally, the detective requested the security logs and checked the digital activity on the vault's keypad.

Solution: The Sleight of Hand

The case unraveled when Detective Graves pieced together the clues. Here’s what happened:
The smudge near the vent indicated that the duct had been tampered with. Upon closer inspection, Graves found scratches on the screws, suggesting they had been removed recently.
The blue thread matched the uniform of the janitor, Michael Trent. Further questioning revealed he had debts and was desperate for money.
Graves also discovered that the keypad had been accessed at 1 AM, using the manager’s unique code. Evelyn had indeed been home, but she had shared her code with Finch for an earlier transaction, unaware he would pass it to Trent.

Finch, complicit in the heist, erased the security footage and planned to split the profits with Trent, who crawled through the vent, accessed the vault, and stole the sapphire.
Detective Graves set a trap. He leaked information that the gem had been marked with an invisible dye, which would show up under UV light. Panicking, Trent attempted to discard the gem, leading Graves to intercept him and recover "The Azure Heart."

"A flawless plan always has flaws," Sherlock quipped as he handed the gem back to Mr. Harrow.
